In true touring fashion a craic based squad has been assembled to entertain our Dutch visitors on Saturday. The epitome of this is the selection of Ant McQuillin as captain. Some year so far from this lad - stepping up to play first team rugby regularly, not from the two's but from the three's ! A great example of what you can do by making the effort to train and play regularly and take the opportunities that are given to you.
His squad has a real grassroots feel to it in the form of 2-3 lads new to the game this season, several 3's lads on the bench. However, the starting xv has a high level of ability in the form of Sol Mak, David Medjigbodo-Lawson forming a formidable front row with the skipper.
We look forward to seeing Jamie McCormick in action after his arrival at the club. Another player capable of of playing back row and centre.
Great to see some returning youngsters back from uni in the form of Tom Westgarth, Alex Hosted, Takreem Faheem, Seb Shilling, Ben Stocken and Oliver Harris. However, we are all looking forward to seeing the senior debut of Harrison Allan-Evans. Haz has been at Bishop Burton ACE this season and is a hot prospect. Playing at fly half he has a great distribution game, very creative and will be one to watch.
Other things to look for would be the ball carrying ability of the two centres - Lex Leonard and Dan Vicary. Both players are capable of playing in the first team and should be a joy to watch them play side by side.
If you want to watch some of our more developing players then keep an eye out for Henry Pace, Robert Li who are just a couple of games into rugby. Or Cameron Emery, who will be making his club debut.
So get down to watch the game kick off at 1500 and then stay to ensure our guests are made welcome to north east rugby in the bar afterwards. Always a joy to watch Nick Cotterill lead the club in traditional rugby songs.
Up the Vos !
